Essential Lift Cleaning Tips
Keeping on top of lift cleaning is hugely important as they’re small and confined spaces that receive frequent use from a number of different people. Make lift maintenance a priority by reading through some of the top lift cleaning tips from our team of experts:
Clean stainless steel walls and doors with extra care
Generally, the walls and doors of a lift are made of stainless steel. These surfaces can quickly get quite grubby with grease stains and fingerprints. Clean them using a microfibre cloth soaked in a special steel cleaning product. If you don’t want to use a store-bought product, simply fill an empty spray bottle with undiluted white vinegar and spray onto stainless steel surfaces. Wipe away using a clean and soft cloth.
Tackle mirrors with a standard glass cleaner
Lift mirrors can get visibly dirty quite quickly. Luckily, this is the area of the lift that’s easiest to clean. Simply get a basic glass cleaner and get to work. Use a microfibre cloth to wipe away for a streak-free finish. If you still find that you’re left with annoying streaks, try using a coffee filter to wipe down your mirrors after cleaning. Coffee filters are made of a lint-free material and are regularly used by business owners to clean storefront windows.
Don’t neglect the door tracks
Although you may be tempted to focus on the most visible parts of the lift such as the mirrors, floors and buttons, you’d be surprised just how dirty the door tracks can get as debris and grime can get embedded in them. Keep in mind that if they get clogged with dirt over time, the doors may not be able to open and close with ease.
As this area can be tougher to access, use a brush to get rid of any dust particles or debris. Follow this up by using a vacuum cleaner to suck out any deeply embedded dirt.
Use an antibacterial cleaning solution for lift buttons
As lift buttons are regularly touched by a number of individuals through the course of the day, make sure you clean this with an antibacterial cleaning spray to avoid the spread of germs. Make sure that the cleaning product you’re using isn’t corrosive as you could end up damaging the operation of the lift. We’d also recommend checking your lift and emergency buttons once a week to make sure they’re functioning properly.
