Guidance for Using a Lift While Social Distancing
Passenger and goods lifts are frequently the safest way for the people and goods in larger buildings to get from A to B. While lots of us in the UK are currently dealing with movement restrictions in some capacity, there are premises that have to stay operational. An example being, hospitals where people and supplies need to be able to move efficiently within and between floors at all times, but also stations, supermarkets, factories as well as warehouses. With this in mind, here in this blog, we outline some tips and guidance for safety using lifts during these unprecedented times.
Avoid direct contact with landing and lift car buttons
To steer clear of the spread of microbes from landing and lift push buttons, it's ideal not to touch with buttons your bare fingers, instead, use the end of a pen or pencil, a gloved finger or something else use an alcohol-based hand sanitiser to clean your hands after touching the buttons or surfaces in the lift.
Practice social distancing and avoid crowds
If you are unable to maintain a two-metre distance with other individuals within the lift then you need to be patient and wait for the next lift, or perhaps take the stairs instead if you are able to. Ideally, it’s best to travel in the lift cabin solo or only a few other people to limit the spread of infections through respiratory droplets. Refrain from talking and if you have to cough or sneeze, turn away from the other people in the lift and use your sleeve or a handkerchief to prevent droplets from spreading around the lift.
Frequent cleaning of touchable surfaces
It is always good professional practice to keep surfaces sanitised on a regular basis. We’d advise boosting cleaning efforts so that buttons, handrails, lift car walls, doors and other surfaces are disinfected on a regular basis.
