What Are Eco-Lifts?
Lifts can consume quite a bit of energy, so when you hear about eco-lifts, you are probably wondering what they have to offer. Is it really possible to reduce the carbon footprint of something that does so much work in today’s society?
Standard Lifts vs. Eco-Lifts
Standard lifts tend to require a machine room to manage all the functions of the lift. This requires the use of quite a bit of power for the multiple machines, as well as extra space in the building to accommodate it all.
Eco-lifts are designed to be machine room-less. Instead, they use a microprocessor and Controller Area Network to manage the lift movement. This saves on space and reduces the amount of power needed.
Standard lifts also tend to be on at all times, consuming energy even when they’re not in use. For buildings where the lift is constantly being called, this is not a big issue, but if you don’t use the lift that often, it can generate a much larger carbon footprint.
When you install an eco-lift, it will shut down whenever not in use. As soon as you need it, the power comes back on, as it has only the basic functions in use. This means it uses considerably less power and is more cost-effective, as well as energy-efficient.
Other Features of an Eco-Lift
If you’re considering installing an eco-lift to reduce your energy consumption, keep in mind that there are other advantages, as well. It’s better for the environment, as the name suggests, but it also features energy production. Every time the brakes are used, the engine produces electricity to feedback into the general network.
Even small changes can make big differences. The use of LED lights instead of incandescent ones can save on heat production and energy, for example. They’re also better for the environment when they do burn out. Simply switching to LED lights means using 80% less energy than other types of lights.
If you think that eco-lifts are only for domestic use, think again. They can be installed anywhere, including in commercial buildings. The result is a lift that gives back to the user and to the environment, instead of merely burning up energy. They’re more cost-effective in the long run and can be easily maintained with minimal space wasted.
